Range test

Ford Explorer

Extended Range AWD

The Ford Explorer Extended Range AWD covered 419 km at 90 km/h at around 1 °C in the range test, on par with rivals like the Kia EV6. With the battery preheated it charged at the full 185 kW, and the underlying VW MEB platform comes across as pretty good. The comfortable ride and snappy screen were pluses, but the car felt fairly noisy, the interior plasticky next to cheaper Chinese rivals, and the vertical screen did not appeal. Verdict: not outstanding, but a car that works, with tolerable software and moderate consumption.
