Fronius HEMS: TL;DR
Zerofy transforms your Fronius PV system into a complete Home Energy Management System (HEMS). Monitor production, optimize self-consumption, and control your connected devices – all from one app. No additional hardware required.
About Fronius
Austrian manufacturer of inverters, welding and battery-charging technology. Homeowners typically have a Primo GEN24 (single-phase, 3–6 kW) or Symo GEN24 (three-phase, 3–10 kW) hybrid inverter, older Primo/Symo SnapINverters, and the Fronius Reserva battery (6.3–15.8 kWh). Its monitoring app is Fronius Solar.web.
What is a Home Energy Management System?
A HEMS (Home Energy Management System) helps you get the most out of your solar installation. It monitors your PV production in real-time and automatically steers connected devices like EV chargers, heat pumps, and smart plugs to maximize self-consumption.
With Zerofy as your Fronius HEMS, you can:
- Monitor real-time solar production and home consumption
- Optimize self-consumption through intelligent device control
- Save on electricity bills with dynamic tariff integration
- Track your energy independence and CO₂ savings
Key Features
Real-time Monitoring
See live data from your Fronius inverter: current production, consumption, grid feed-in, and battery status.
Smart Autopilot
Automatically control EV charging, heat pumps, and appliances based on solar surplus.
Dynamic Tariffs
Integrate electricity spot prices (Tibber, aWATTar, etc.) to optimize for cost savings.
What Fronius offers on its own
Before connecting Fronius to Zerofy, it helps to know what Fronius offers on its own:
- EV charging: Fronius sells its own Wattpilot wallboxes, manufactured by go-e in Austria, a company Fronius holds a stake in. Wattpilot charges on solar surplus from 1.38 kW with automatic 1/3-phase switching, but only with a compatible Fronius inverter (GEN24, Verto, SnapINverter with Datamanager 2.0) and a Fronius Smart Meter at the grid connection point.
- Heating: The Fronius Ohmpilot feeds surplus into a heating rod (0.3–3 kW single-phase, 0.9–9 kW three-phase) and has a control output for a heat pump with an SG Ready input. GEN24 inverters can also switch an SG Ready input through one of their four digital outputs plus a coupling relay, and Fronius lists direct integrations with heat pumps from IDM, Bosch and NIBE.
- Other loads: GEN24 inverters have four digital outputs for load management (Energy Management → Load Management in the inverter’s web interface), which switch loads such as heating rods or pool pumps through an external relay when surplus is available.
How It Works
- Connect your Fronius system – Zerofy reads your system from Fronius Solar.web through a guest account that you create for Zerofy.
- Add your devices – Connect your EV, charger, heat pump, or smart plugs
- Enable Autopilot – Let Zerofy automatically optimize for solar self-consumption
- Track your savings – Monitor your energy independence and cost savings
